SPLURGE 'N PURGE

“Don’t eat it, it will purge you”.

I’m not sure if this is even a correct English expression but it definitely communicates in Nigeria. It communicates that eating whatever it is will cause you to have diarrhea. But that’s not the story. The real story is in the myth that most obese people believe. We like to think that a runny tummy means that we are “losing some weight”. Seriously. Why do you think green tea, slimming tea and all the other poo-poo teas are popular?  Because they build strongly on that myth. So when someone says to a fat person, “Don’t eat it, it will purge you” all she is hearing is, “Eat this, then weigh yourself after you have gone to the loo about 4 times. You will most likely notice a shift in the scale that will put a smile on your face”.

Is it even a myth?

Talking about myths. I have a friend that swears that her weight on the scale differs after she has done Number 2. “Uloma, sometimes it is up to .5kg!” I would always answer with, “Do you know how many days of dieting and hours on the treadmill I would need to do to lose .5 kilos, and you are telling me that you poo-poo it away? Come on!”

We always want the quick and easy way to diet and lose weight. <>

I wrote a comment previously and seem to have lost it....here we go again!
Many of these 'drinks' and 'foods' have laxative and diuretic effects, so yes it is very possible for 'weight-loss' to occur....but one will have to eat and drink again, abi??!!๐Ÿ˜œ and even most likely deal with the aftermath of the electrolyte derangement that could possibly occur with chronic use and such practices!!!
